Facing challenging conditions, Houston master builders have raised a unique skyline while creating construction solutions and innovations copied worldwide. Now an exhibition of photographs, models, video and memorabilia will highlight the accomplishments of the contractors who made the city what it is today.

The buildings represented in this exhibit are only a few of the many landmark construction projects completed by members of AGC Houston. Thanks to the archives, libraries, and many individuals who have saved these photographs. The fledgling History Project needs your contribution of photographs and memorabilia documenting the construction of our city and region so that we may compile an accurate history of the work of AGC members.

Introduction
by George A. Pontikes, Jr., Satterfield & Pontikes Construction, Inc.
2009 AGC Houston Chairman of the Board

On behalf of the Houston Chapter of the Associated General Contractors of America, Inc., welcome to the exhibition. As you look around, you will see the past accomplishments of the founders and current members of our organization. You will look at their innovations, challenges, and monuments. But more important, these buildings represent what we have learned about our chosen profession.

These great buildings in Houston were our school. As a boy, I rode my bicycle to construction sites where big projects were going up, peeking through fences, watching the builders and their trucks. My friends and I hung out at the construction site of the Astrodome almost every day. It’s why I wanted to be a contractor, and why I can’t imagine a better profession. The monuments of Houston are every contractor’s education.

I don’t believe there is any better business than the one members of AGC Houston devote themselves to. We build something, and we can drive by every day and feel proud of what we have done. I hope you feel that way, too, at this exhibition. This is your city.
